This stock medical exhibit illustrates bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome with surgical release. The upper portion of the exhibit portrays the pre-operative condition using palmar views of both the right and left hand and also using an inset with a cross sectional view of the right wrist. The transverse carpal ligament, flexor tendons, and compressed median nerve are clearly labeled. The lower portion of the exhibit demonstrates the surgical technique. In a palmar view of the right hand, the making of an incision in the palm and wrist is shown, which exposes the carpal tunnel. The the incision of the transverse carpal ligament is depicted and then the median nerve and the flexor tendons can be seen freed from compression.
