Cervical Discectomy and Fusion of C5-6 and C6-7 - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing

This stock medical exhibit depicts cervical disc injuries at C5-6 and C6-7 with an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion procedure. The first illustration is a sagittal view of the cervical spine showing the pre-operative condition. Also shown are superior views of C5-6 and C6-7 clearly revealing the C5-6 and C6-7 disc herniations compressing the thecal sac. There are four steps of the operative procedure illustrated, beginning with the incision to expose the cervical vertebrae. The next illustration shows the removal of the C5-6 intervertebral disc and bone spur. Then bone graft is placed in the C5-6 disc space and the C6-7 disc and spur are removed and replaced with a bone graft as well. Finally an Acufix plate and screws are placed from C5-C7.
